The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has presented a proposed budget of ₦16 billion for its programmes and projects in the 2026 fiscal year.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, revealed the figure recently during bilateral discussions with the 2026 Budget Committee at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Providing a breakdown of the proposal, Dr Udofia disclosed that capital expenditure was estimated at ₦13 billion, while overhead costs were projected at ₦2 billion. Personnel expenditure, he added, would take ₦554 million.
He emphasised that tourism remains a strategic pillar in Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, noting that the 2026 allocation would prioritise the development of key tourism corridors across the state. These, according to him, include Ikot Abasi, Itu, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo, which are to be repositioned as flagship hubs for cultural and leisure activities.
The Commissioner lauded Governor Eno’s sustained attention to the tourism sector, describing it as a rapidly expanding global industry with immense potential for wealth creation, sustainable revenue inflow, and job opportunities, especially for young people. He advised the Budget Committee to consider the proposal favourably in line with the administration’s vision.
In response, the Chairman of the 2026 Budget Committee and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Nsikan Linus Nkan, commended Dr Udofia for his comprehensive presentation, assured that the submission would undergo a thorough review with a view to favourable consideration.
Dr Udofia was accompanied to the budget session by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Grace Akpan, as well as Directors from various departments of the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
