The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria on Saturday carried out tuberculosis (TB) testing and counselling for over 200 residents of Nnung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
The outreach, aimed at raising awareness on TB, underscored the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
AHF’s Senior Advocacy and Marketing Manager, Mr. Steve Aborisade, said the initiative demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to empowering communities to take charge of their health and wellbeing.
He explained that through Power Voices—an AHF Africa community advocacy club—local residents are being encouraged to champion health-related causes.
“They are individuals dedicated to working for the good of their communities by promoting awareness, education, and advocacy. Community ownership is critical to the success and acceptance of health projects,” Aborisade noted.
He added that AHF would continue to strengthen community collaboration with stakeholders in tackling health challenges.
Similarly, Miss Jessica Umoh, AHF’s Akwa Ibom Linkage Coordinator, stressed the need to educate residents on TB symptoms and treatment.
“Tuberculosis is curable and not a death sentence. In partnership with KNCV Nigeria, we are collecting sputum samples and analysing them free of charge. Anyone diagnosed will be placed on free treatment, which is also available in public health facilities,” she said, cautioning patients against relying on herbal concoctions.
Community members who took part in the exercise lauded AHF Nigeria, describing the initiative as both timely and impactful.
