Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old suspected serial vandal following an intelligence-driven raid in Midim Water Side community.

The suspect, identified as God’stime Emmanuel James, was apprehended at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, 18 August, during a late-night operation after weeks on the run. He was said to have been wanted in connection with the destruction of school facilities and private properties in the area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, who confirmed the arrest in a statement yesterday, disclosed that James was caught while in the company of several unidentified individuals. The others, however, escaped into a nearby creek on sighting the patrol team.

Items recovered from the scene included a handbag containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, four door handles, a mini torch, and assorted parts of damaged locks.

“The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. We urge victims of recent vandalism in the community to come forward to provide statements that will aid prosecution,” DSP John said.

The arrest has brought relief to residents of Midim Water Side, many of whom had expressed frustration over repeated attacks on schools and private homes in the locality.
